Our founder, Mr. Robert D. Thompson, a graduate of West Point Military Academy, was a former senior owner of a medium sized Philadelphia law firm, Harvey Pennington, and was the managing owner of that firm’s New Jersey office, Pennington & Thompson, until he left to form Robert D. Thompson & Associates, L.L.C. in February 2000.

For almost 30 years Mr. Thompson devoted a substantial amount of his work to the representation of design professionals including architects, engineers, and land surveyors.  In 2005, Mr. Thompson was honored by being identified in New Jersey Monthly magazine’s first annual Guide to the Top Attorneys in New Jersey as a “Super Lawyer” in the field of civil litigation.  Mr. Thompson passed away in June 2006.

True to our firm’s history, we continue to emphasize the representation of architects, engineers, land surveyors, and related construction professionals and contractors.  In addition to being educated in the law, our lawyers are educated in civil engineering, environmental engineering, and mechanical engineering.  One of our attorneys is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New Jersey having several years of practice in the field of Structural Engineering.  Most of our attorneys have had “large firm” experience and our group of A&E lawyers is comparable in number to that practicing at larger firms with broader practice areas.
